Origin History & First Known Use of WTMS
WTMS comes from everyday spoken English rather than a formal organization or technical term.
The phrase What’s the move? became popular in urban slang and everyday conversation long before it appeared as an abbreviation. As texting became faster and character limits mattered, people shortened common questions into initials.
Eventually:
What’s The Move
became
WTM
and in some communities
WTMS
where the final S often represents Sis.
The abbreviation spread through:
- Group chats
- College students
- Friends making plans
- Social media messaging
- Mobile texting
Unlike older abbreviations such as LOL or BRB, WTMS is considered newer slang and is still mostly used in informal settings.
